Through Liposuction

Liposuction is undoubtedly one of the most written and talked about cosmetic improvement procedures available. Yet despite it having being available for more than 20 years (since the early 1980s) it is still one of the most misunderstood. It is not an easy way to overcome a generally overweight condition. If being generally overweight is your problem you should forget Liposuction and embark on a regime of diet and exercise to bring you as close as possible to an ideal weight for your height and frame. It is once you have reached a stable level that Liposuction may prove to be a valuable ally.

Liposuction is suitable for women and for men. Millions have had the procedure. Millions have been counselled extremely well by their Surgeons prior to surgery and millions have been more than happy with their results. It is important for the Surgeon to counsel you fully. Surgeons of The Pountney Clinic recommend Liposuction on around one third of patients who request an assessment. Ideal Candidates
The best candidates for Liposuction are people of reasonably normal weight with firm elastic skin. This normally means patients of around 45 or less because our skin becomes less elastic as we age and may not retreat over the area from which the fat has been removed. Obviously, whatever your age, at Consultation your Surgeon will examine you and explain exactly what you may be suitable for and what you should anticipate with regard to a realistic improvement. Many of us over 50 may have tiny pockets of fat that may be removed successfully so a Consultation is the priority.

The Operation
A slender hollow probe is inserted into the fatty area. The area may already have had a fluid injected that helps to break down the fat and make removal easier. A powerful suction is applied and the superfluous fat is removed through the cannula (the tube). The incisions are tiny and may only require a single stitch for closure. Recovery is usually very rapid with the best results being seen after some three months have elapsed and localised surgical swelling has disappeared.
