Lower Eyelid Improvement

The eyes themselves show very little sign of ageing and can remain bright and clear even into advanced years.  However, some of us develop bulging fatty tissue pouches and this can produce a permanently tired appearance. In many case these eye bags are inherited and may be corrected at an early age but for most of us they commence development during our 20s to become even more noticeable as we approach our 40s. Sometimes only skin needs to be removed.  Often fat pads also require removal.  Around half the patients having this procedure are men. 

Eyelid surgery has increased by 91% over the past 10 years.  It is the 4^th most popular procedure for women and the 3^rd most popular for men.  American Association of Plastic Surgeons (2003).

Upper Eyelid Improvement

Sagging skin on the upper eyelid contributes to the outward signs of ageing by creating loose folds that droop.  These are often in layers and can obscure, either partially or totally, the actual eyelid itself.  This has the effect of reducing the apparent size of the eye and may interfere with vision.  It is an interesting side note that many pilots have had this operation in order to look younger and to aid vision.

The Oriental Eyelid

Oriental eyes have a single eyelid whereas Caucasian eyes have a double lid.  A well-defined supra-tarsal fold may be created through surgery giving a more western appearance to oriental eyes.
